Description
The Certificate II in Animal Studies is now being offered at FACTS.

This qualification provides the students with the knowledge and skills to care for animals on a daily basis. Areas where this work may take place in Veterinary clinics, animal shelters, lost dogs home’s or pet shops whilst under the direct supervision of a qualified instructor.

The course is offered Full-time.

Clinical Placement.

Clinical placement is designed to accomplish the following:

  • To gain a better understanding of the clinical setting
  • To explore issues related to the role of the Certificate II in Animal studies.
  • To encourage students to participant in procedures and tasks.
  • To facilitate your learning by putting theory into practice.
  • To identify learning goals and how to implement them.
  • To accept responsibility for your own actions.
  • To accept responsibility you’re your own learning.
  • To learn what environment best suits you.

Clinical placement is for 1 week, full time in the workplace. FACTS will organise clinical placement and you will be given the place, dates and times you are to be at work. This work is unpaid but the experience you can gain from this place is invaluable. Clinical placement is 100%, you must make up any sick days. Again FACTS will organise. Clinical placement will be further discussed on enrolment day. For these students off-campus FACTS will organise clinical placement.

RPL/RCC – Recognition of prior learning and Recognition of current competencies.

Recognition may be given for skills and knowledge gained through previous study or other relevant experiences.

These include:

  • Credit Transfer: If you have a units that you have completed at another Registered Training Organisation that matched exactly a unit of this course you may be given credit for it. You will need to supply a statement of attainment form the Registered Training Organisation from which you were enrolled.
  • Exemption based on RPL: Granted for previous study, work or relevant life experience.

The course is being delivered at 61 Leather Street . Breakwater 3219 Geelong.

Students who enrol in this course will be expected to be able to speck English and write English clearly.

UNITS OF COMPETENCY

RUV2101A

Work in the animal care industry.
This unit covers the process of working on an individual basis and with others in the animal care industry. Once you have been assessed as competent you will have the knowledge and skills to follow work schedules and recognise animals commonly found in the workplace.

RUV2102A

Follow OH&S procedures in an animal care environment.
This unit covers the process of OH&S in the workplace. Once you have been assessed as competent you will have the knowledge and skills to follow workplace procedures in areas such as risk control, safe practice and legislation that governs the clinic.

RUV2103A

Assist with general animal care.
This unit covers the process of teamwork. Once you have been deemed competent, you will have the knowledge and skills to provide general animal care. This may include handling animals, cleaning animal housing and workplace hygiene.

RUV2104A

Provide food and water for animals.
This unit covers the process of providing food and water for animals. When you have been deemed competent you will have the knowledge and skills of food, water and different diet regimes for animals. Documentation is also included in this unit.

RUV2105A

Participate in workplace communications.
This unit covers the process of communication in the workplace. Once you have been deemed competent you will have the knowledge and skills to communicate in many ways. This may include spoken or written forms through to completing relevant work related tasks and workplace meetings.

RUV2601A

Carry out veterinary reception duties.
This unit covers the process of the clinic routine. Once you have been deemed competent you will have the knowledge and skills required to compiling animal histories through to archiving. You will also be able to carry out basic veterinary reception duties.

RUV2602A

Carry out daily clinic routines.
This unit covers the process of maintaining clinic hygiene, assisting with inventory and clinic security.

RUV2106A

Assist with food preparation.
This unit covers the process of food preparation for a whole range of animals. Once you have been deemed competent in this unit you will have the knowledge and skills required to (under assistance) feed animals in the clinic.

RUV2107A

Provide basic first aid for animals.
This unit covers the process of First Aid for animals.

RUV2501A Provide information on companion animals, products and services.
This unit covers the process if information. Once you have been deemed competent you will have the knowledge and skills to perform information provision. Under supervision you will be able to inform clients, work personal and others of new products or new research that is currently being attended to.
