Certificate IV in Nursing qualifies successful graduates to practice as a Registered Nurse Division 2 in Victoria.

Information Sessions are delivered every Wednesday even through school holidays from 2pm at 61 Leather Street, Breakwater. Ongoing.

About the course:

The duration of the Certificate IV in Nursing is 1018 Hours in total, which includes 18 units of competency.
Clinical placement includes 320 hours, which is equivalent to 40% of the course. The course is held 3 days per week over 12-14 months, with all School Holiday off.
Clinical placement is arranged for you and you will need to be available for 1-2 week block placements. You will be given the Delivery plan on enrolment, which tells you the plan for the entire course.

Graduates who successfully complete all components of the course will be recommended to the NBV for registration as a Division 2 Nurse.

HLTAP401A Confirm Physical Health Status
This unit of competency describes a detailed level of knowledge of anatomy and physiology required to confirm physical health status.
HLTAP501A Analyse health information
This unit of competency describes the application of in-depth level of knowledge of anatomy and physiology required to analyse available health information in relation to specific services to be provided.
HLTEN401A Work in nursing profession
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to practice as a nursing professional with clients across the lifespan as in range of health care environments, such as acute care, community care, mental health, aged care, medical and surgical.
HLTEN403A Undertake basic client assessment
This competency unit describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake a nursing assessment using a lifespan approach.
HLTEN405A Implement basic nursing care
This unit of describes the skills and knowledge required to contribute to the nursing care of clients in a range of health environments.
HLTEN406A Undertake basic wounded care
This unit of involves the principals of infection prevention, in relation to wounded care prodesses in a variety of health care contexts.
HLTEN410A Deliver nursing care to consumers with mental health conditions
This competency unit describes the skills and knowledge required to contribute to the nursing care and management of consumers with mental health conditions.
HLTEN414A Deliver basic nursing care to older adults
This competency unit describes the skills and knowledge required for the nurse to perform basic nursing interventions to support the health care needs for the older person in any environment.

Deliver nursing care to acute care clients
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required of the nurse in contributing to the care of a person with an acute health problem.

HLTEN502A Apply effective communication skills in nursing practice
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required for effective communication in complex communication situations and it's application to nursing practice; the function and purpose of of small groups; meeting procedures; and the dynamics of group work and evaluation as a tool for continuous improvement.
HLTEN505A Contribute to the complex nursing care of clients
This unit describes the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to providing nursing care for clients with complex needs.
HLTEN507A Administer and monitor medications in the work environment
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required of the nurse to administer and monitor medications and evaluate their effectiveness for clients within a health environment.
HLTEN513A Implement and monitor nursing care for clients with chronic health problems
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required in contributing to the care of the client with a chronic illness by performing nursing interventions that support the clients needs and assist in maintaining an optimal lifestyle.
HLTHIR403B Work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers
This unit of competency deals with the cultural awareness required for effective communication an cooperation with persons of diverse cultures.
HLTHIR404B Work effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait islander people
This unit describes the communication and work practice skills and knowledge required to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people in the health industry context.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required for workers to comply with infection control policies and procedures. All procedures must be carried out in accordance with current infection control guidelines, Australian and New Zealand Standards for maintaining infection control and the policies and procedures of the organisation.
