| The Certificate IV in Pathology
Specimen Collection is consistent with the level four of the Australian
standards framework in that people who complete the program will
be eligible to undertake occupations in which they will be independent
in the workplace.
The Certificate IV in Pathology Specimen Collection aims to provide:
* an accredited training program at ASF level 4 for people wishing
to pursue a career in the Pathology Collection industry.
* Training and skill development in areas including
Communication, OH&S, phlebotomy, venepuncture and arterial blood
gases.
• Competency involves the
application of knowledge with depth in some areas and a broad
range of skills.
• A range of tasks and
roles in a variety of contexts, with some complexity in extent and
choice of actions required.
• Competencies normally
used within routines and procedures where some discretion and
judgment is required in selection of equipment,
work organization, services, actions and
achieving within time constraints.

My name is Karen Gallagher and I am employed by FACTS where my role includes training students in the Certificate IV in Pathology Specimen
Collection, Trainee Liaison, as well as promoting FACTS as a Health Training
Organisation.
I am a Registered Nurse Division 1 and have been
working as a nurse both in clinical care settings and in education
for over ten years.
During this time I have gained experience in
many facets of acute care, community health nursing and Phlebotomy.
I have held various senior nursing positions and have actively
pursued my own education and professional development.
My postgraduate certificates include Certificate
IV in Assessment & Workplace Training, Certificate III and IV in
Pathology Specimen Collection along with certificates in acute care.
